A behind the scenes look at our weekly Covid-19 testing program.
When is testing performed at Webster?
Malibu Medical Group provides testing for our students every Monday from 8:30 – 10:30 AM.
How do I register my student(s) to be tested?
You can register using this link. Please submit a separate consent form for each student. You can review the consent form in full here: English / Spanish.
Please note, consent forms must be submitted online. The front office is unable to accept printed consent forms.
Can I be present when my student is tested?
No, parents cannot attend testing. Please contact Principal Daruty if you have concerns: ldaruty@smmusd.org.
May I request a saliva test for my student(s)?
Yes. Students in grades preschool - 3 may request a saliva test by emailing Principal Daruty: ldaruty@smmusd.org. Students in grades 4 and 5 must submit an exemption form to be granted a saliva test.
Exemption forms: English / Spanish.
I’d like to have my student tested by a provider of my choice. Will the district reimburse me?
In lieu of participation in our district’s testing program, students may choose to submit a weekly PCR test result in alignment with Webster’s testing schedule. Please note, antigen test results will not be accepted. We will be sharing more information on how to submit these test results soon.
The district will not provide reimbursements for outside testing. However, LA County provides a searchable list of testing sites here, many of which are free of cost.
I’d like to opt out of testing for my student(s). Does the district offer exemptions?
Yes. Please submit the following form for your exemption to be reviewed: English / Spanish
I’d like to opt out of testing but my exemption request was denied. Can my student(s) still attend in-person/on-campus learning?
In lieu of participation in our district’s testing program, students may choose to submit a weekly PCR test result in alignment with Webster’s testing schedule. Please note, antigen test results will not be accepted.
Students who choose to opt-out of testing completely will not be allowed on campus for in-person instruction or activities starting Sept 8, 2021.
SMMUSD provides an independent study program for such students.
When are test results available?
48 hours after your student is tested.
Who sees my student’s test results?
Malibu Medical Group will notify Webster’s school administration, school nurse, and the parent(s) of any student who tests positive.
How will I be notified of testing results?
You will only be contacted in the event of a positive test result.
If your student tests positive, you will be notified by email and contacted by our Webster nursing team to begin contact tracing and review protocols.
*Note: Once an individual tests positive, they may continue to test positive for up to 90 days. This will be considered regarding future quarantine protocols.
Does a positive test send the child’s entire class to distance learning?
Protocols are determined on a case by case basis by our Webster nursing team. Each situation is different, and there may be instances when only the child who tests positive is required to quarantine.
In a recent case, a Webster student tested positive for COVID-19 and it was determined, through contact tracing, that the entire class, teacher and support staff were exposed and needed to be quarantined.
What would cause a full school shut down?
School closure would require epidemiologically-linked cases. It is the goal of our weekly testing program to prevent an outbreak in our school.
Will my personal insurance be charged?
No. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) requires personal insurance plans to cover asymptomatic “screening testing” in school settings regardless of whether the provider [Malibu Medical] is in-network or out-of-network. Details are provided in this memo.
If you have additional questions or concerns regarding your insurance coverage, you may contact Malibu Medical Group at smmusd@malibumedicalgroup.com.
If you receive a bill from your insurance company in error, please contact Malibu Medical at smmusd@malibumedicalgroup.com.
I do not want to provide my personal insurance information. Can my student(s) still participate in SMMUSD’s testing program?
No.
However, LA County provides a searchable list of testing sites here, many of which are free.
I am uninsured and do not have a social security number or ID number to provide for the consent form. What do I do?
Please contact the Webster office at 310-456-6494.
